About the training
In this training, transracially adopted person April Dinwoodie invites families to explore how the rhythm of the calendar can help spark transformative conversations about identity and belonging. Each month introduces new opportunities to build skills, deepen understanding, and foster inclusive environments for families. This session will provide tools and insights for families navigating the complexities of racial identity and creating a sense of belonging one month at a time.

Presented by April Dinwoodie April is a passionate Advocate for Adoption, Foster Care, and Multiracial Families. Upon birth, April was relinquished into foster and adopted by the age of two. Growing up, she navigated life as a Black/biracial woman in predominantly white spaces. Her personal journey—shaped by questions of identity, belonging, and family—has fueled her lifelong commitment to fostering empathy, inclusion, and understanding. Currently, April serves as Executive Director of Transracial Journeys, President of the Adoption Knowledge Affiliates Board, and DEIB leader at Steven Madden, LTD. She also facilitates adoption support groups, consults on federal child welfare grants, and serves on advisory boards.
